Newspapers and Their Decline

papers
The Newspaper or rather the press industry in the UK dates back to 300 years ago. Since its beginning this industry, the press has constantly been evolving. Every other year more and more newspapers were added to the already existing number in the UK. But now this industry, the press is at risk, with the growing popularity of the internet, the newspapers have lost their hold on the public. Not just people in the UK but people all around happen to spend more time on the internet than anywhere else. The internet provides them with the same news they get in their newspapers, except they get the information for free.

Newspapers have stiff competition with the online news. Another appealing point about the online news is that people can look up only what they want. Unlike papers that educate them on several issues and topics, online they can choose what they want to read. So should they choose to read only about celebrities that will be possible.

According to several reports the people of our generation do not like reading the newspaper. They claim their lives are busy and they have no time for newspapers. Since most people like surfing the net, very often they stumble upon news and that’s what gets them started. Many journalists too have realized that they can capture the attention of readers on their sites and hence many newspaper blogs have come into being. Infact “The Guardian” and “The Observer”, two UK newspapers have started blogs of their own. They have realized that people are at least reading the newspapers online and hence have started publishing their daily articles online.

The world of the internet is booming and flourishing and the number of journalists has also increased. Tons of journalists are busy publishing their articles online as well as in print on paper. Thus ensuring they capture readers attention be it through papers or the world wide web.
