Newspapers and Their Decline

PAPER
According to the latest report in the UK, newsprint newspaper reading is on a major decline and hardly 3% consult a newspaper web forum. According to studies with every new generation, fewer and fewer people read the newspapers. According to a poll taken in 1986 72% of the population read a newspaper daily, in 2006 the number declined to an alarming 46% that read the newspaper just thrice a week. That’s a massive drop. And from 2006 to now, the number has dropped further. According to the polls newspapers are losing royal customers while failing to gain any new customers. It is indeed very sad to know that our people are comfortable going about their day without caring about what is happening around them. They rather be ignorant than pick up a newspaper and read.
UK has several newspapers to offer but unfortunately not many readers. British people no longer find it necessary to be updated about what is happening in the world around. They find no need to educate themselves in the field of politics, economics, international affairs etc. nowadays people seemed to care about news about popular culture. To some extend they worry about crime and their safety but that’s as far as it goes and these kind of information they can gather from articles other than newspapers.

In the past newspapers were the key in bringing political views to the people in Uk but now editors are made to rethink what ought to be there in newspapers. It seems like the more irrelevant information is what captures the attention about the public. They care more about the gossip columns than the news itself. Politicians of the past were worried about the power of the press but nowadays the politicians are called to worry about the weakness of the press. The press is definitely losing its power today.
